Major crimes and forensics unit investigating on McKellar Street in Thunder Bay

The Thunder Bay Police Service says to expect a visible police presence in the area as members of the Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Unit are involved in an investigation.

The Thunder Bay Police Service's major crimes unit and forensic identification unit investigated an area on the city's south side Sunday, according to a news release.

Police officers were in the area at the 400 block of McKellar Street North where it meets the 800 block of Finlayson Street.

The release advised there would a visible police presence remaining in the area as the investigation was ongoing. 

The police presence was first reported by TBNewswatch on Saturday evening. 

"There is no active threat to public safety at this time," the release said.

No further details on the investigation were provided in the release.

CBC reached out to Thunder Bay police to request more information on the investigation, but did not receive a response by publication time.
