Nipigon River Bridge to see temporary closures this weekend

If you're planning some early morning travel along the Trans-Canada highway east of Thunder Bay this weekend, you'll want to take note of planned bridge work.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation says to expect delays on Highway 11/17 at the Nipigon River Bridge, because of two-hour closures of the bridge, on Saturday and Sunday from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.

 Additional short term closures of 15 minutes or less may also occur throughout the weekend, the MTO said.

However, the ministry said it will ensure emergency response is maintained, even through the closures.

The work is to allow necessary repairs to the bridge that heaved apart earlier this year.

The MTO said it still expects to open the bridge to two lanes of traffic by the end of February.
