The University of Sudbury and the Laurentian University Faculty Association have reached a tentative three-year agreement.
No information has been released about the deal, which now has to be ratified by both parties.
Talks broke off last week and, in the absence of a deal, professors could have been in a strike or lockout position before September.
Negotiations over salaries and staffing procedures had been going on for more than two months. Talks with a private mediator were scheduled for Saturday.
