Sudbury’s Nick Foligno to captain NHL All-Star Game
Sudbury’s Nick Foligno is about to have the biggest weekend of his hockey career.
The forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets will play in the NHL All-Star Game for the first time, and he will also act as a captain for one of the teams.
Foligno spoke on CBC Radio’s Up North program, and said he was shocked when he found out about the news.
“It was pretty amazing,” he said.
“John Davidson actually called me and met with me and just told me the news in person which I thought was pretty classy. I was pretty thrilled.”
The All Star Game isn’t the only career highlight for Foligno this year.
The former Sudbury Wolves player just signed a six year, $33 million contract with Columbus.
The All Stars skills competition will take place Saturday while the game will take place on Sunday.
Both will be broadcast on CBC television.
