There will be a public meeting tonight in Sudbury to discuss planned cutbacks at Health Sciences North.

The union that represents nurses said a total of 39 full-time and five part-time positions are being lost.

The hospital said the cuts are needed to balance the budget and will be done through attrition if possible.

Anne Marie McInnis is the co-chair of the Sudbury Health Coalition.

“I’ve been getting lots of calls from the public. They are outraged. They are upset,” she said.

“Most of the calls have been from seniors concerned about the procedures they do have scheduled and how that is going to directly impact them.”

McInnis said the coalition is raising questions about what impact the reduced nursing hours will have on patients.

The meeting tonight will be held at the Steelworkers Hall at 7 p.m.
