Child pornography charges laid against Gore Bay man

A 30-year-old Gore Bay man faces several child pornography charges following a six-month investigation by police.

In June, police from the Toronto Police Service Child Exploitation Unit were conducting a covert online investigation. During the investigation, the suspect sent images of child sexual abuse to the undercover officer, OPP report.

A few months later, in October, undercover police from New Zealand identified the same suspect involved in the sharing and accessing of child sexual abuse images via the internet.

After continued investigation by the police agencies, the suspect was identified in Gore Bay, on Manitoulin Island.

On Wednesday, members of the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, Sudbury Police Service, and Gore Bay OPP searched a Gore Bay residence and seized two computers, which contained images of child sexual abuse. Other items pertinent to the investigation were also seized.  

A 30-year-old man has been charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, one count of making child pornography available and two counts of accessing child pornography.

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Friday at the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay.
