A man accused of forcing his way into a 21-year-old Saskatoon woman's apartment on June 3 and sexually assaulting her over a 12-hour period is facing new allegations of an assault he's alleged to have committed in custody.

Joey Yaremko appeared in provincial court Friday.

The 37-year-old is now charged with assault, unlawful confinement and attempted sexual assault in connection with an incident alleged to have happened on Aug. 15.

A court-ordered publication ban prevents detailing the allegations, but what is known is that the newest assaults are alleged to have happened while he was in custody in Saskatoon.

Yaremko fired his Legal Aid lawyer mid-appearance Friday.

He returns to court Sept. 5.

Yaremko has a history with police in Saskatchewan. In 2014, he was involved in a stand-off with Saskatoon police in the 2100 block of Seventh Street E. after he escaped from a psychiatric prison facility near North Battleford.
