Prairie Sun Brewery planning move to Broadway's Farnham Block
Brewery hopes to open restaurant at historic Lydia's pub location this winter
A well-known location on Saskatoon's Broadway Avenue could see a new tenant by this winter.
Prairie Sun Brewery has announced its plans to move a restaurant and microbrewery onto the previous site of the Farnam Block by this winter.
"We have been looking at every location that came available on Broadway for the past six years with my realtor, waiting for the perfect fit," wrote Chief Operating Officer Heather Williams on Facebook.
"I'm honestly shocked that another brewery hasn't moved in."
The historic Farnam Block building had been a landmark on Broadway for decades before it was torn down in 2015. Since then, the lot has sat empty.
This winter, the site's owner said it was finishing the building's architectural drawings for a new one-storey retail building that could start construction by this spring.
The developers had previously planned to build a multi-storey condominium development on the site, but scrapped those plans early on in the process.
The building was occupied by the former Lydia's Pub. The former Turning The Tide bookstore was also demolished.
The Prairie Sun Brewery currently sits on Quebec Avenue, just off of Circle Drive on the city's north end.
