Police in Saskatoon say a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man have been charged with attempted murder after what investigators describe as a random machete attack left a woman in hospital with serious injuries.

Police were called to the 500 block of Avenue H South around 10 p.m. CST Tuesday after a woman showed up at a home there asking for help. The woman said she'd been attacked with a machete in a back alley nearby.

The 23-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with what police said were serious but non-life threatening injuries. She is expected to recover.

Police arrested three males of ages 15, 16 and 18 and charged them with possession of a dangerous weapon. Police also seized a machete and promised Wednesday to keep looking into the attack.

On Thursday, police said the 15-year-old and the 18-year-old were also charged with attempted murder.
