A 22-year-old man made his first court appearance in Saskatoon on Wednesday, after he was charged with second-degree murder.

Last week, police said they were searching for Duran Laplante in connection to a homicide that took place on August 10 in the city's downtown area.

At that time, police found a 24-year-old man who had been seriously injured in an apartment on the 200 block of Fifth Avenue N. The man was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Police identified the victim on Wednesday as Elijah Kozak.

Officers say Laplante and Kozak knew each other and had allegedly gotten into a fight that day.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300.

Laplante will make his next appearance August 28.
