COVID-19 outbreak declared at unit in Royal University Hospital
Outbreak declared Friday in hospital's orthopedics and trauma unit
An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Royal University Hospital's trauma and orthopedics unit.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority posted the unit to its list of outbreaks across the province on Friday.
There are currently 29 active outbreaks in the Saskatoon region listed on the province's website as of Monday morning.
Few details are known about the outbreak so far, including how many people have been infected and the degree that the outbreak is affecting hospital operations.
According to the health authority, outbreaks are confirmed when there are two or more individuals with COVID-19 and transmission likely occurred in a non-household setting.
As of Sunday, there were 33 people being treated for COVID-19 in Saskatoon hospitals.
Earlier this year, Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert and the Lloydminster Hospital also had outbreaks in their facilities.
The health authority said the outbreak would remain listed until it's declared over by a medical health officer.
