Thrifty ideas for Halloween
Some in Sask. plan to keep a budget by buying used pieces and making their own costumes
If you're a last minute costume shopper, you're still in luck.
Halloween is only a few days away, but Value Village and its team of costume consultants are offering their help.
They say many people have been going in to take advantage of the store's pricing and selection to make stand-out outfits.
"They want to mix the new and used so they're not the same as everybody else.Being able to add that used twist is a very important part of our busines," said Dawn Timm, a value village manager in Regina.
Timm said many costumes, such as a bar maid, a clown, and a vampire, can be put together for less than $20 at the store.
Making costumes from scratch
Sheena Eelkema works at a sewing store. She's choosing to make costumes this year instead of buying one from a store.
"By the time you buy one, you'll have already spent $50, $60, $70. By the time you've bought all of the accessories and it falls apart. You're lucky if it can last through the night. If you make one it can last until your kids grow out of it," she said.
Many fabric stores offer patterns to follow and advice.
