A child who was in a truck that was stolen in northeastern Saskatchewan is back home safe with her mother after Mounties chased the thief into Manitoba.

RCMP say the pursuit began Tuesday afternoon in Creighton, Sask., when a man took the truck and headed for The Pas.

Police say a three-year-old girl was in the back seat.

Mounties from four RCMP detachments worked to corner the suspect and the truck went off the road after hitting a spike belt outside of Cranberry Portage.

Police say the suspect fled and the child was found unharmed.

Investigators with a police dog say they later arrested a suspect who now faces kidnapping, theft, dangerous operation of vehicle and other charges.
