Saskatoon police say a man has been arrested after two people were stabbed on a city bus Monday night.

A man and a woman were on the bus when another group of two, a man and a girl, got on the bus, police said. The four of them were the only passengers.

An altercation broke out. A 38-year-old male and a 32-year-old female suffered serious but non-life-threatening stab wounds. The man appeared to have been stabbed in the chest and the woman was cut on the face, police said.

The other two, a 21-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl, fled the scene when the driver stopped, police said.

Officers found the man after he tried to hide under a car and in a backyard, police said. He is facing 2 counts of aggravated assault as well as impersonation and breach of conditions. The girl was released without charges. Police believe the pair were intoxicated.

The City of Saskatoon said the driver was not involved and is safe. They were taken off their shift and offered counselling. This is protocol when serious incidents happen.
