Saskatoon police are looking for a suspect in several suspicious fires started along the riverbank.

Police were called to the lower path of the riverbank in the 700 block of 25th Street E. at around 7:20 p.m. CST Monday. Security staff from Royal University Hospital were the first people to the fire and had extinguished it. The city's fire department made sure everything had been extinguished properly.

Police said the fires were small, but there were many of them. The first fire was closer to the Broadway Bridge, then small spots of fire sprung up and moved north along the riverbank, according to police.

The fires are suspicious in nature, police said. Police believe they were lit anywhere from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CST on Monday evening.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
