Event in Belle Plaine, Sask., designed to give girls a taste of road construction work

Girls from grades 10-12  got the chance to operate some heavy machinery in Belle Plaine, Sask., on Wednesday.

The event, sponsored by the Saskatchewan Construction Association, was aimed at getting more high school girls interested in the trades.

Hayley Johnson, who's in Grade 12, was one of the students who got to try driving graders and gravel trucks.

"It's just interesting — to make these big machines move. And for a woman ... it's a great opportunity."

Women make up ten per cent of the construction workforce in Saskatchewan.
