SE Ventures fined $2,100 for violating Saskatchewan Employment Act
A computer company in Carnduff, Sask., pleaded guilty to violating workplace harassment rules after a hidden camera was discovered near a toilet in its staff washroom.
SE Ventures, operating as ITComputes, was fined $2,100 in Estevan provincial court on April 18. The charge was under the Saskatchewan Employment Act.
According to a provincial government news release, the occupational health and safety branch investigated in December 2014 after an employee discovered the hidden camera.
The case was also handled, last year, as a criminal matter.
In March 2015, the Carnduff businessman who ran the computer store and pleaded guilty to seven counts of voyeurism was sentenced to house arrest and fined $1,400.
Court heard heard Brian Cowie placed a "nanny cam" in the washroom of his store and spied on his female employees, at least one who was a teenager.
He had told court he had been doing this for a period of four to five years.
