5 things to do this weekend in Saskatchewan
From dragon boat races to pets in the park, there's something for everybody
No plans this weekend? Fill your calendar up with these events taking place across Saskatchewan:
Saskatoon
Dragon Boat Festival
This is an event that's fun for both participants and spectators. Come watch more than 1,100 paddlers take on the South Saskatchewan River.
There's live entertainment, food, and a family fun zone, all for a good cause. More than $87,000 has been raised online for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
On Saturday, vendors open at 7 a.m. CST, with events happening from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Find more information on the Dragon Boat Festival, including a full list of events, here.
Pets in the Park
This is an event that is fun for the whole family — even the four-legged members.
Bring your leashed furry friend to Kiwanis Park on Sunday for local musicians, dog agility and training demonstrations, and a visit from the Saskatoon Police K-9 unit.
Document the day with a pet portrait or clean up your pet's paws with a nail trim. There's also a silent auction and a junior handler showcase.
The event is also helping less fortunate animals in the community. Pets in the Park raises money for medical care for sick, injured, orphaned or homeless animals in Saskatoon.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Find more information here.
Regina
1st annual Prairie Grand Grass and Sand Volleyball Tournament
It's the first tournament of its kind, featuring both grass and sand volleyball courts.
Come check out competitive and recreational players from Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba.
Matches are taking place on Saturday and Sunday at the Regina Rugby Union Fields.
The event is being held in support of the Canadian Cancer Society, but there is no cost for admission.
Saskatchewan Roughriders vs Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The 0-4 Roughriders are hoping to break their losing streak against the Ti-Cats on Sunday.
There is extra incentive to win at home considering the Riders won't be back at Mosaic Stadium until Aug. 22.
Kickoff is at 5 p.m. Tickets are still available.
Moose Jaw
4th annual BRICKSPO
This isn't your kid's Lego work. Come check out hundreds of plastic brick masterpieces at Moose Jaw's Western Development Museum.
This two-day event is hosted by the Saskatchewan Lego Users Group.
Featured again this year is the Kids Building Contest on Saturday for children ages 10-14.
Come visit the museum on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is included in the regular museum admission.
