The Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw is being wound down. According to CUPE Local 600, 36 workers recently received layoff notices.

Layoff notices have been given to 36 workers at the Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw, the union representing them says.

The positions include nursing, dietary, housekeeping and scheduling staff, CUPE Local 600 said in a news release.

The facility for people with intellectual disabilities is slated for closure in 2018 and its operations are being wound down.
Since the closure was announced, 80 positions have been eliminated, the union says.

The union says it's "shocked and extremely disappointed" that those getting pink-slipped are not being offered retraining, relocation or enhanced severance.

The government and the union are in contract talks, but have reached an impasse, the union says. A conciliator is being brought in.
