Arthur Francis McGuigan, 58, was charged on Wednesday. McGuigan was a youth worker at Bluefield High School.

Police said the victim, a high school student who is under 18, is known to McGuigan and it is believed he also provided her with illegal drugs. RCMP said the alleged offences occurred in August of this year.

McGuigan has been released from police custody and has been told to appear in provincial court Sep. 30.

Officials with the English Language School Board say McGuigan is on leave.

The RCMP is continuing its investigation.
