Construction on a section of Charlottetown's Victoria Park Boardwalk started today.

The section closest to Brighton Road near the Victoria Park Pool is closed to pedestrians during construction.

The city is replacing 1.2 kilometres of the boardwalk, from the swimming pool to Beaconsfield Historic House.

The work is being done in 1,500-foot sections in order to keep much of the boardwalk open to pedestrians.

City officials say the 20-year-old boardwalk is aging and needs to be replaced. The boardwalk is also being widened to 10 feet from eight feet.

Construction on the boardwalk is expected to be completed by the end of November.
