Islanders woke up Wednesday morning to snow-covered roads with icy patches and slush, creating challenging travel conditions.

Due to these conditions, all classes in the Westisle, Three Oaks, Kensington, Kinkora, Bluefield, and Charlottetown families of schools are delayed one hour. All other schools remain on their normal schedules.

P.E.I.'s French-language school board has also implemented a one-hour delay for all schools, except for La Belle Cloche in Rollo Bay, which operates as usual.

CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin said there will be more snow throughout the day, estimating two to four centimeters.

"It's going to be one of those times of the snow where it's ... not a lot falling at once, but it is persistent over time. So it does continue to add up. The winds are going to pick up throughout the day today as well," she said.

Simpkin said winds are forecasted to increase to 30 km/h, with gusts up to 50 km/h in the afternoon.

Road conditions

The plow dispatcher for Prince County said roads are snow-covered or partly snow-covered, with icy patches from Summerside to Tignish.

The plow dispatcher for Queens County said roads are snow-covered and slushy.

Meanwhile in Kings County, roads were partly snow-covered, with icy patches extending from Cherry Valley to Georgetown and Montague to Souris.
