Islanders in central and eastern P.E.I. can expect some snow and high winds this weekend.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Friday afternoon for Queens and Kings counties. It warns of total snowfall between five and 15 centimetres with wind gusts of 80 to 100 km/h from Sunday into Monday.

"Strong winds accompanying the snow will cause reduced visibility at times in blowing snow," the special weather statement reads.

"Travel could become difficult. If you must travel, be prepared for delays and allow extra time to reach your destination."

The weather agency said similar storms in the past have caused hazardous driving conditions, scattered utility outages and road closures.
