Hannah Bell and Matthew MacFarlane have been approved as candidates in the Green Party of Prince Edward Island's leadership contest, the party announced Thursday.

The party's leadership convention will be held on June 7, 2025 — an earlier date than the party had previously planned for.

"We are so pleased to have had two excellent candidates step forward with an interest in leading our party into a new chapter," Kathy Low, president of the Green Party of P.E.I. said in a news release.

MacFarlane announced his intention to run for the party's leadership in January, and Bell announced her intention the following month.

Leadership candidates must meet requirements of the party's leadership contest rules, the party said in a news release.

Candidates must raise $10,000 — the first half due by April 10 and the second half by May 8, the release said.

Candidates must also, by May 8, collect the nominations of at least 50 party members in good standing, with at least five members signed up from each of P.E.I.'s three counties.
