Charlottetown police seize $750K in drugs after raid
Accused scheduled to appear in court Monday
A 37-year-old Oyster Bed Bridge man faces a number of drug and weapons charges after Charlottetown police executed a search warrant on his home Friday.
Deputy Chief Gary McGuigan told CBC News police seized 2.6 kilograms of cocaine and roughly 3.6 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of $750,000.
They also seized guns, a barrel of benzocaine (a pain reliever used to dilute cocaine) as well as a "significant amount of cash."
The man faces a total of six drug-related and weapons charges, including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.
"The only unique thing about this raid is that it targeted not a street-level drug dealer, but someone who would be considered a middle man," McGuigan said.
"With the amount of drug and cash seized here we're thinking this will have a significant impact. It's going to disrupt the drug trade here because not only will it disrupt the street user, it will also impact the middle man."
McGuigan said there's no indication that fentanyl is in the seized cocaine.
