Police say they have seized 1.5 kilograms of what is believed to be methamphetamine and 40 grams of suspected cocaine from a residence in Anglo Tignish, along with cash, weapons and a vehicle.

Police say they have seized 1.5 kilograms of what is believed to be methamphetamine and 40 grams of suspected cocaine from a residence in the western P.E.I. community of Anglo Tignish, along with cash, weapons and a vehicle.

Three people were arrested and charged Wednesday, said RCMP Cpl. Gavin Moore. They were scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing Thursday morning.

"Kilogram-level seizures on P.E.I. don't happen every day," Moore said. "This is a very significant seizure and represents a very, very large number of doses that have been taken off the street."

Moore said 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine could represent up to 15,000 doses of the drug.

"As you can imagine, that is a lot of drugs. That's a lot of people very negatively affected by a very toxic substance," he said.

This is the second kilogram-level methamphetamine seizure on P.E.I. since August of this year, Moore said.

That may indicate the size and quantity of some of these dangerous drugs that are coming to P.E.I.," he said.

The search was conducted by the Prince District Joint Forces Operations Drug Unit with assistance from Prince District RCMP, the RCMP Provincial General Investigations Section, the RCMP Major Crime Unit, RCMP Police Dog Service and the Summerside Police Services Major Crime Unit.

We hope that seizing this amount of drugs does have an impact on availability here in P.E.I.— Cpl. Gavin Moore

While Moore said the substances seized by police match the characteristics of methamphetamine and cocaine, police use the term "suspected" until they get results from a drug testing lab.

"We hope that seizing this amount of drugs does have an impact on availability here in P.E.I.," Moore said.

"It's these efforts that help to also signal to those in the drug trade that they will be held responsible for their actions."
