Rideau Canal Skateway closing again Tuesday night
NCC leaving door open for possible return this season
The National Capital Commission (NCC) says a warm, wet forecast will close the Rideau Canal Skateway again, but it's leaving the door open for a possible return.
Daytime highs in Ottawa are forecast to reach 5 C Wednesday and Thursday, with rain likely until Thursday night when overnight lows should return to around –10 C.
The canal is closing at 10 p.m. Tuesday to all users, the NCC said early Tuesday afternoon.
'We hope that this temporary pause combined with the return of colder temperatures at the end of the week will allow us to reopen," it said on social media.
The skateway was initially closed last week before partially reopening Sunday.
The skating season that started on Jan. 11 has offered more than six weeks of skating, a bounce back after the two shortest seasons in the skateway's 54-year history.
This winter has seen new vendors and a new pedestrian path on the tourist attraction and UNESCO world heritage site.
The NCC said the skateway has drawn nearly 1.2 million visits this season.
