Police investigating fatal plane crash near Alexandria

The plane crashed east of Alexandria, Ont., Wednesday afternoon.

Transportation Safety Board of Canada is also investigating

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal plane crash east of Alexandria, Ont.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a plane crash on Power Dam Road east of Alexandria, according to police.

The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

According to a Wednesday afternoon news release, a team of investigators with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) was deployed to the area for an accident involving a Cessna 150 aircraft.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline and rail transportation occurrences with the goal of advancing safety.

Power Dam Road remains closed, and OPP are requesting people avoid the area.

Alexandria is located about 100 kilometres southeast of Ottawa.
