Gatineau traffic signaller killed by snow plow in snow removal operation

A traffic signaller has died after being struck by a snow plow Monday afternoon in Gatineau's Limbour district, according to the Gatineau Police Department.

A traffic signaller has died after he was struck by a snow plow Monday afternoon in Gatineau, Que.'s Limbour district, according to the Gatineau Police Department.

Police said they responded to a call about a collision between a pedestrian and a snow plow around 1 p.m., near the intersection of boulevard la Vérendrye and rue de Cannes, about 8 kilometres north of Parliament Hill.

The victim, an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. 

Gatineau police confirmed he was a traffic signaller employed by a subcontracting company on behalf of the city and was part of a snow-clearing operation when he was struck.

Police said they are investigating the circumstances of the event but do not consider it a crime, and an investigation has been opened by Quebec's workplace safety board, the Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST).

Boulevard la Vérendrye, between avenue Gatineau and rue de Cannes, was closed to traffic Monday afternoon, police said, as well as rue de Cannes between rue de Rayol and rue de Saint-Vallier.
