1 dead in plane crash near Ottawa's Carp Airport

One person has died in a small airplane crash in a wooded area near a rural west Ottawa airport, police say.
Ottawa police and firefighters said they were called to the Carp Airport at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday for reports of a plane crash.
Fire officials said a plane was found on fire in a wooded area near the airport. Firefighters used portable extinguishers to calm the flames before running a hose into the woods to fully extinguish the fire.

—@OttFireJust before 5:30 p.m., police said that one person, believed to be the plane's lone occupant, had been found dead at the scene.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada deployed a team of investigators to the crash, which involved a Blackshape BS100 airplane.
The team left the scene before 8 p.m., but is set to resume the investigation Thursday morning. Police said they will have officers guarding the scene overnight.
The Carp Airport is located approximately 30 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa.
