Just before 5:30 p.m., police said that one person, believed to be the plane's lone occupant, had been found dead at the scene.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada deployed a team of investigators to the crash, which involved a Blackshape BS100 airplane.
The team left the scene before 8 p.m., but is set to resume the investigation Thursday morning. Police said they will have officers guarding the scene overnight.
The Carp Airport is located approximately 30 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa.
