Woman who died in north-end Halifax slipped on ice, fell under bus, police say

Halifax Regional Police say no charges are expected to be laid.

Police initially reported the death as 'suspicious'

Halifax police say a woman who died in north-end Halifax one week ago slipped on some ice and fell under a Halifax Transit bus.

Police initially described the death of the 40-year-old woman as "suspicious" but did not provide much information about the circumstances. At that time, police were seeking the public's help with the case.

In an update on Friday, police said they were called to Gottingen Street near Bloomfield Street at about 7 p.m. AT on Feb. 28, and found an injured woman lying in the roadway.

Paramedics gave first aid to the woman and took her to hospital, but she died of her injuries after arriving.

Police say witnesses saw the woman slip on ice, and further investigation confirmed that she fell under a Halifax Transit bus.

An autopsy concluded that the woman's injuries were consistent with that information, police said.

Officers are still investigating, but police say no charges are expected to be laid.
