Swastika spray-painted on Dartmouth car prompts police investigation
Police say crime may have been motivated by hate
Halifax Regional Police are investigating after a swastika was spray-painted on a car parked in the driveway of a Dartmouth home Thursday night, vandalism they say may be motivated by hate.
Police say officers were called at 9:15 p.m. to a home on Lahey Road after a witness saw a man smashing the car's windows. The witness told police the man then ran to a vehicle parked on Victoria Road and took off.
Police say the damaged car had its windows and headlights smashed, and the tires were slashed.
Police say the suspect is a white man with a skinny build and either 19 or 20 years old. He was wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt, baggy blue jean shorts and a red ball cap.
A description of the vehicle the suspect left in was not provided, police say.
