Integrated youth services site coming to Yarmouth
Site will provide mental health support and social services, province says
An integrated youth services site is coming to Yarmouth.
In a release Friday, the province announced that the southwestern Nova Scotia town will be home to a "one-stop mental health and social services" site for young people ages 12 to 25.
The site, which joins seven previously announced integrated youth services sites across Nova Scotia, will provide mental health and substance abuse support, employment and housing support, primary health care and other services, the province said.
BGC Yarmouth, formerly known as the Boys and Girls Club, will be the host site and services will be delivered by several community organizations, with oversight by the IWK Health Centre.
The government says it's investing $8.4 million in these sites and an additional $10 million in funding has been provided by "philanthropic partners."
Some of the first integrated youth services sites are expected to open this spring, but a spokesperson for the province's Office of Addictions and Mental Health says Yarmouth is not one of them.
The office said the Yarmouth site is expected to open "over the next few years."
