Halifax Regional Police have issued a high-risk offender notification for a man who has just reached the end of his federal sentence on child pornography charges.

According to a news release issued by police Friday afternoon, George Durling, 57, has been granted statutory release and is staying at the Jamieson Community Correctional Centre in Dartmouth's Burnside Industrial Park.

Durling served a two-year sentence for convictions including distributing child pornography, printing and publishing child pornography, and harassing and indecent communications.

According to police, Durling has been known to text and call random phone numbers with sexually explicit content.

The offences occurred in Truro and Maitland, N.S.

Durling has prior convictions, including a three-year sentence for sexual assault in Manitoba in 1992.

He also received two probation orders for separate convictions for assault and committing an indecent act. Those crimes were committed in Truro in 2019 and 2022.

Durling's release conditions include that he stay away from anyone under the age of 16, abstain from alcohol and stay off the internet.

He must report all relationships and have no contact with any of his former victims.
