A Heritage Gas crew was to blame for a natural gas leak in Halifax two weeks ago, according to a preliminary report on the incident.

The report, filed with the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board, repeats the account of events the company issued on the day of the Clayton Park incident on Nov. 18.

An existing gas main was being exposed to connect it to a newly installed section of the gas main — which is feeding a new subdivision at the end of Knightsridge Drive — when crew damaged the line.

That caused a gas leak that took about 90 minutes to stop.

The leak shut down Knightsridge Drive from Dunbrack Street to Flamingo Drive for part of the morning. There was a heavy smell of gas in the area and a hissing sound could be heard from the area of the leak.
