Volunteers help police search for clues in homicide of Chelsie Probert, 18
Teen was found on a Dartmouth footpath Tuesday night, later died in hospital
A volunteer search team is helping Halifax Regional Police look for evidence in the homicide of Chelsie Probert.
Probert, 18, was found wounded on a footpath between Albro Lake Road and Farrell Street in Dartmouth at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday. She was taken to hospital where she later died.
The path remains blocked off by police. Halifax ground search and rescue crews are using metal detectors and long probes to search the tall brush off Albro Lake Road for evidence.
Sgt. Greg Robertson said each volunteer search team is accompanied by a police officer. The officer will step in if they find anything that must be processed as evidence. Robertson wouldn't say if they've found anything so far.
Police plan to end this phase of the search early this evening. They hope to remove the police tape and leave the area later today.
Police found a man stabbed in the same area in February, but don't know of any connection.
"It is too early in the investigation into the death of Chelsie Probert to link it to other ongoing investigations, but our investigators would be exploring all avenues," said Const. Diane Penfound.
