Ready for his close-up! Andrea Magee snapped this candid shot of a porcupine (who may need to head to the dentist), sending it to our CBC Yukon Facebook page. (submitted by Andrea Magee) The seasons are changing, and photographers from across the territories and Northern Quebec are documenting their adventures with some spectacular shots. Here's your long weekend gallery of your best photos of the week from across the North:
There are some amazing natural features on Nunavut's Bylot Island. Iga Atagootak sent this photo of her granddaughter, Alivia Manning, at a spot where 'the sand and mud formed into nature's art form by water flowing on and through the sand and freezing.' (submitted by Iga Atagootak) Colours pop off the screen in this spring sunset on the N.W.T.'s Hay River, taken by Don Wilson. (submitted by Don Wilson) So close, and yet so far! Arnauja Alaku took this shot of fish swimming beneath the ice outside of Kangirsujuaq, Nunavik. (submitted by Arnauja Alaku) Flying amidst the lights: Collin Goyman sent us this amazing shot, taken while flying over the southern Northwest Territories on a medevac. (submitted by Collin Goyman) Nothing like a little Northern ingenuity! Katum Hevoga wanted to go ice fishing on Baker Lake, in Nunavut, but her mom's aulahaut's (jiggers) were still buried under deep snow. So, what to do? Use a hockey stick, of course! 'It worked good,' she said. 'I caught 2 fish on our lake.' (submitted by Katum Hevoga) Storm clouds gathering over Whitehorse's SS Klondike makes for a breathtaking sight. Here's Astrid Sidaway-Wolf, who submitted the photo: 'I'm new to the North, so am constantly in awe of the beauty at every turn. The uncharacteristically tumultuous clouds, the incredible glow of the sun, and the notable, robin's egg blue sky made for a definite Yukon moment in my first Northern spring.' (submitted by Astrid Sidaway-Wolf) Incoming! Tasha Marie sent us this shot of an owl on a mission from Tuktoyaktuk. Wayne Chicksi managed to snap this photo while sitting in a blind geese hunting. (Wayne Chicksi/submitted by Tasha Marie) Even dogs in the Yukon know when to stop and just take in the view. Renata Lendvai shared this photo of her Mudi named Szotyl, enjoying a moment along Whitehorse's Millennium Trail. (submitted by Renata Lendvai) Even seagulls can be majestic, through the right lens: Natalie Gillis snapped this one in flight near Pond Inlet, Nunavut. (submitted by Natalie Gillis)
