RCMP seize huge quantities of booze on Sahtu winter road

Tulita RCMP say the last three large seizures on the road from Norman Wells comprised a total of 156 bottles of vodka and 152 containers of beer.

Tulita RCMP have seized large amounts of alcohol in recent weeks during searches of vehicles on the Sahtu winter road.

The last three large seizures comprised a total of 156 bottles of vodka and 152 containers of beer. Three people have been charged with offences under the GNWT Liquor Act in relation to those seizures.

Tulita RCMP have been conducting daily checkstops since the opening of the winter road from Norman Wells.

Liquor is restricted in Tulita. Residents are allowed to possess, in a 24-hour period, a 40 ounce bottle of spirits, five 750-ml bottles of hard liquor, five 1.14-litre bottles of hard liquor and 12 355-ml cans or bottles of beer. 

The RCMP is asking anyone with information about illegal possession of liquor in the community to call the Tulita detachment at 1-867-588-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
