14 running in Whitehorse city election

Fourteen Whitehorse residents will be vying for mayor and council seats in next month's city election, including incumbent mayor Bev Buckway and most of the current council.

Candidates had until noon PT on Thursday to submit their paperwork. Voters in Whitehorse and other municipalities across the Yukon will go to the polls on Oct. 15.

Buckway, who has been Whitehorse's mayor since 2006, is being challenged by longtime resident and businessman Al Fedoriak.

Of the 12 people running for six seats on council, five are incumbents: Doug Graham, Dave Stockdale, Jeanine Myhre, Florence Roberts and David Austin. Coun. Jan Stick announced earlier this year that she would not seek another term.
