Some Oasis Treasures chocolate bars recalled over salmonella risk
340g Pistachio Dubai Chocolate with best before date of July 25 sold online and at Showcase stores
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for certain Oasis Treasures-brand Pistachio Dubai Chocolate bars sold across the country because of possible salmonella contamination.
The 340-gram bars, manufactured by Palm Bites Canada, have a best-before date of July 25, 2025, and a UPC of 8 02962 40190 7, according to the notice issued earlier this week.
The bars were sold online and at Showcase stores in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
The recall was triggered by test results and no illnesses have been reported, the agency said.
"Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick," the advisory says. "Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections."
Some of the short-term symptoms healthy people may experience include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis, according to the agency.
More recalls could follow
People who have any of the affected chocolate bars should not consume, serve, use, sell or distribute them, it says.
Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
People who think they've gotten sick from consuming the recalled chocolate are advised to contact their health-care provider.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said it's conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
It's also verifying that the recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.
The recall was originally issued on Monday. An updated notice on Tuesday removed Nunavut and Yukon from the original distribution list, added "certain" to the title and the weight of the bars.
