The New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit has ended its search of the Jones Lake area in Moncton's west end as part of the investigation into the double homicide of an elderly Dieppe couple.

Officers were searching for evidence related to the deaths of Bernard Saulnier, 78, and Rose-Marie Saulnier, 74, who were found in their home on Amirault Street in Dieppe on Sept. 7.

Police combed through the brush around the lake, and two police dogs were on scene. Police concentrated on the area around the lake and not in the water.

Police would not say if they found anything during the search.

No details about the cause of the deaths or possible weapons involved have been released, but police do not believe the killings were random occurrences.

"It's the information, information that we've gathered so far in the investigation that's led investigators to this point and they believe that it could potentially, hopefully gather some more evidence in relation to the ongoing investigation," said Cpl. Jullie Rogers-Marsh.

In November, RCMP announced they were looking for two vehicles that were in the area at the time the Saulniers were killed, a black, four-door sedan with tinted windows and black rims and a black Infiniti SUV.
