Order of Moncton recipients include doctor, educator, journalist

Dr. Susan Crouse, the late Owen Fraser and Louise Imbeault are the 2016 recipients of the Order of Moncton.

"For the seventh year, we honour and celebrate outstanding citizens who have made significant contributions to the social, economic and cultural well-being of Moncton and its residents," said Mayor Dawn Arnold.

"Dr. Crouse, the late Mr. Fraser and Mme. Imbeault exemplify excellence ... and have positively touched the lives of many."

Crouse is the founder of the Harvest House Centre, which later became the Salvus Clinic.

The medical clinic serves people with mental illness and addiction who can often be marginalized.

"Dr. Crouse believes in a model of care on a human level like no other. She is dedicated to improving the social well-being of Moncton citizens, giving hope and purpose to those who feel like there is none left," the city said in its news release.

Owen Fraser, who is described in the release as a "consummate teacher and beloved mentor," will be honoured for his dedication to education and preserving the natural world.

He is the founder of Camp Centennial in Moncton, was the choir director at his church and worked as a Boy Scout leader.

Fraser also co-founded the Cape Enrage project, which is a popular tourist attraction in the province.

Louise Imbeault is a retired journalist at Radio-Canada where she worked as a reporter, host, news editor and director.

"Her passion and commitment for arts and culture is legendary. She continues to lead and promote numerous cultural initiatives locally, provincially and nationally, inspiring others to positive action while enriching the quality of life for all," reads the news release.

Imbeault currently owns a publishing house for children's literature and serves on many boards including the Moncton Cultural Board.

The Order of Moncton will awarded at a formal induction ceremony at Moncton City Hall on Nov. 15.
