A energy watchdog group is leading the questioning of NB Power officials Tuesday at the utility's rate hearing before the Energy and Utilities Board.
Chris Rouse of New Clear Free Solutions has intervenor status at the hearing and will have the opportunity to ask questions of NB Power officials.
NB Power is seeking approval to increase its rates by two per cent on Oct. 1.
NB Power told the hearing Monday the increase is needed to put the utility in a stronger financial position by the time it has to spend between $2 billion and $5 billion after 2021 to deal with the end of the life of the Mactaquac Dam.
The rate hearing is taking place at the Fredericton Convention Centre.
