One of the seven young Quebecers suspected of joining jihadists fighting overseas last winter is said to have died in Iraq, according to Radio-Canada sources.
The parents of a student at Collège de Maisonneuve say they received a call from abroad, saying their son had died in Iraq.
Parents of the student say they received a call from a woman speaking Arabic, saying their son had died as a "martyr" in the Iraqi city of Tikrit.
Radio-Canada sources report that investigators with the RCMP are taking the report seriously, but wouldn't confirm the death.
Radio-Canada has decided not to release the young man's name out of respect for his family.
Like four of the seven students who left Montreal in mid-January, the young man was a frequent visitor to the Islamic community centre led by Adil Charkaoui.
