A popular Quebec City area ski hill will stay open during the holidays, after employees threatened to walk off their jobs this week.

The union representing 200 employees at the Stoneham Mountain Resort said it reached an agreement in principle with management Thursday with the help of a conciliator.

"We're very happy," the president of the workers' union Jacques Ratté told Radio-Canada. "[The conciliator] made some good points — it's their specialty. And, he clarified some things, made suggestions and we reached an agreement."

The workers had wanted similar working conditions as people working at Mont-Sainte-Anne ski resort, which is owned by the same company: Resorts of the Canadian Rockies.

Employees were prepared to launch a three-day strike starting today. During an assembly on Dec. 18, they voted 95 per cent in favour of a ten-day strike mandate.

Ratté says employees will meet on Monday to learn about the agreement in principle.
