McGill suspends Redmen football player for pending assault charges

A McGill Redmen football player has been suspended from the team after he was arrested and awaits to be arraigned in court Thursday morning.

22-year-old man will appear in court Thursday to face charges of armed robbery, assault and uttering threats

A McGill Redmen football player arrested and awaiting to be arraigned in court Thursday morning has been suspended from the team.

McGill University issued a statement late Wednesday night, stating it was informed one if its players was arrested earlier in the day.

"In line with the University’s varsity athletics guidelines, effective immediately, this player is suspended from the football team pending resolution of his case by the Court. The Office of the Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning) will actively investigate the matter. In line with the values and policies of McGill University, we will take any and all measures that are deemed to be appropriate," Deputy-Provost Ollivier Dyens said in a statement.

Officials from McGill and the Montreal police will not name the player.

Montreal police say the 22-year-old man faces charges of armed robbery, assault and uttering threats.
