Winnipeggers will find out in one week how the city intends to spend their tax dollars in the coming year.

It will be rookie mayor Brian Bowman's first budget.

Bowman has said 2015 will also be about cleaning up scandals he inherited, and about making some tough fiscal decisions.

“The budget in general is going to be a very difficult exercise," said Bowman back in a year-end interview with CBC.

He said the state of Winnipeg's roads, municipal water pipes and transit are all on his radar.

Budget day March 3

Coun. Marty Morantz, who chairs the standing policy committee on finance, said Tuesday the preliminary 2015 operating and capital budgets will be tabled March 3 at a special meeting of Executive Policy Committee.

"There’s no doubt that creating a budget that is balanced, thoughtful and that provides strategic solutions in such a short timeframe - between the civic election and the provincially legislated deadline to pass a balanced budget - was an incredible undertaking and challenge," Morantz said in a news release.

"Now that our preliminary work is complete, the key is to ensure that we provide as much time as possible for open participation and engagement with Winnipeggers. We look forward to the discussion.”
