Woman, 72, dies in western Manitoba collision

A 72-year-old woman from Birtle, Man., has died following a collision in St-Lazare on Tuesday, RCMP say.

A 72-year-old woman from Birtle, Man., has died following a collision in St-Lazare on Tuesday, RCMP say.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 41 in the village near the Saskatchewan border, about 300 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, RCMP said in a news release.

The vehicle had left the highway and hit a tree and was at the bottom of a steep hill on the south side of town, police said.

The highway was icy when the collision happened.

Emergency medical services and firefighters helped remove the woman from the vehicle, RCMP said.

She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she later died, they said.

She was the only person in the vehicle at the time.

Russell RCMP continue to investigate the crash.
