A 26-year-old man who was wanted in connection with a shooting in a northern Manitoba community last weekend has been arrested, police say.

RCMP had issued an arrest warrant for Darcy Campbell, 26, after a 42-year-old man was found injured with a gunshot wound in an apartment complex on Cathedral Avenue in The Pas on Sunday morning.

Officers who were called the complex found the victim in the block's stairwell. He was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition and was later flown to Winnipeg for further treatment.

Witnesses said two people, both males, fled the scene immediately after the shooting, RCMP previously said.

In an update Friday, Mounties said they got a tip early Thursday morning that Campbell was seen re-entering the Cathedral Avenue apartment block where the victim was found.

RCMP officers, with the assistance of a canine unit, contained the complex and arrested Campbell without incident, police said in a news release.

He faces charges of aggravated assault and several firearm-related offences.

RCMP say they continue to investigate.
