Random stabbings send 2 men to hospital in Winnipeg, police say
Man, 23, faces charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon

Two men were rushed to hospital after a pair of random and separate daytime stabbings on Main Street in Winnipeg, police say.
A 37-year-old man suffered a serious upper body injury just after 12:30 p.m. on March 5 when he was approached on Main Street between Sutherland and Selkirk avenues by a stranger who started an unprovoked argument, police said.
The argument escalated into the stabbing, before the attacker ran from the scene. The victim was sent to hospital in unstable condition and later updated to stable, police said.
Around 2:15 p.m., a 61-year-old man in the area of Main Street and Pioneer Avenue was approached by a stranger who requested a cigarette.
Unprovoked, the stranger pulled out a knife, stabbed the man in the upper body and ran off, police said.
The injured man was sent to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.
Police arrested a 23-year-old man about an hour later, around 3:05 p.m., on Portage Avenue downtown.
He faces charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.
